SEO
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a term used to describe some of the features Search Engines look for to rate your webpage and then the whole of your website.
The search engines are looking for words and phrases that people entre to find a particular subject or interest on the internet.
Search engines read all the pages on the internet and try to build up a picture of what that page is about. They then store this information in such a way as to speed up the rate in which it can respond to user search enquiry.
You can think of this like a great big library (the internet) and you asking the librarian (the search engine) which book (page) is best about a given subject, (search term or word).
All of this is a form of Marketing, called Inbound Marketing.
Inbound Marketing is a process of identifying and connecting with potential customers
SEO comes in two forms
- On page SEO, is what is written on your web page.
- Off page SEO, is what is found out on other pages out on the internet.

How the Internet descibes SEM
Search Engine Marketing
Search engine marketing, or SEM, is a form of Internet marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs) through the use of search engine optimization, paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid inclusion.
How the internet describes SEO.
Search Engine Optimization.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a web site or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Other forms of search engine marketing (SEM) target paid listings. In general, the earlier (or higher on the page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.
